Far Eastern Workhorse Designed in Finland

Vityaz (Rus. витиазь) is an icebreaking multipurpose vessel, which operates at the De-Kastri oil terminal located in the Khabarovsk Regional District in the Far East of Russia. The vessel’s primary task is to assist tankers arriving at the terminal – it acts as an escort tug and does icebreaking and ice management in the area. In addition, its responsibilities include operating in oil spill and firefighting readiness and participating in supplies and personnel transports. It is also equipped for anchor handling duties.

The owner of Vityaz is our Russian ship owner client Viking Ships Services. The company built the vessel based on our design after signing a contract for ship services with the end customer, Exxon Neftegas Ltd, which was the operator of the Sahalin-1 consortium.

We conducted the tender design of the ship in accordance with the end customer’s requirements. After our client was awarded the contract, we next prepared the entire conceptual design material. The company selected a Chinese shipyard as the builder of its new vessel, and after that we entered into an agreement with the shipyard to supply the entire basic design package. The design and shipbuilding processes were carried out excellently, and the ship was handed over on schedule.

From the beginning, the ship has demonstrated its capability to operate in the Russian Far East’s harsh conditions, and the shipping company and its crew have praised its user-friendliness. Both the shipping company and the end customer have been very satisfied with the ship.

The vessel belongs to the ILS Knight Design Series product family.

It is designed and built in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Russian Maritime Register (RMRS) and equipped with the following class marking:

KM★ 1A SUPER AUT1 ANTI-ICE OIL RECOVERY SHIP (>60C) ESCORT tug OMBO F3WS
